Art & Jewelry Farmers Market Assistant
Position Type: Seasonal, Part-time (with potential for year-round work)
We're seeking an enthusiastic individual with strong sales skills to join our team at local farmers markets and festivals. The ideal candidate will assist with art display, customer engagement, and drive sales through authentic connections. A background in visual arts, graphic design, or handmade crafts is a plus, as it can help in understanding and presenting the work effectively—but it's not required.
Season Commitment & Growth Opportunity
Our primary market season runs from the first week of June until after Christmas, with occasional markets from January through mid-April. While this is not a contracted position, we are looking for someone who can commit to at least three seasons and is willing to make themselves available during these times.
For those with strong sales abilities and a dedicated work ethic, there will be opportunities to develop into a year-round, part-time role.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and arrange art and jewelry displays for maximum appeal
- Learn about the artistic process and assist in presenting the work to customers
- Mount, package, and price inventory with care and attention to detail
- Engage customers in a warm, authentic manner and build lasting connections
- Convert interest into sales through knowledgeable and personable interaction
- Process transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems
- Track inventory and sales performance
Requirements
- Must be 21+ with reliable personal transportation
- Strong customer service background with proven sales abilities
- Outgoing personality with a natural talent for engaging people
- Ability to connect with customers without being pushy
- Availability on weekends (markets are almost always on weekends)
- Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable handling cash and digital transactions
- (Bonus) Familiarity with visual arts, jewelry design, or craft markets
Compensation
- $20/hour after training period
- Performance-based incentives as sales increase
Paid Interview Process
Qualified candidates will be invited to a 2-hour paid working interview ($15/hour) at one of our market locations. This hands-on experience allows us to see your customer engagement style and sales approach in action.
